The Irish Republican Political Activist Sustainer Campaign

A cháırde

Cumann Na Saoırse Náısıúnta (CnS) would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone who has donated to past Cabhair Sustainer appeals, to the Christmas Liffey Swim and to the annual Cabhair Dinner in Ireland.  Your generosity has been greatly appreciated by the families and dependants of Irish political prisoners in Ireland.

For the past number of years many in public life have taken credit for being involved in the Peace Process.  However, during that same time period young Irish Republican activists have been jailed in growing numbers for the same reason that Bobby Sands and his comrades were incarcerated 28 years ago; which resulted in his death along with nine others who died while on hunger strike seeking political status.

Republicans do not oppose a genuine peace with justice based on an all Ireland democratic process, such as the Irish authored Éιre Nua federal proposals.  What they do vigorously oppose is any arrangement that is based on the old British sectarian model that has always divided the communities and is now maintained by ‘peace walls’ that did not exist before the ‘peace process’.

The Special Powers Act of 1922 promulgated by the British in the occupied counties was later matched by the authorities in the twenty-six county Irish Free State with the equally repressive Public Safety Act, known today as the Offenses Against the State Act.  These repressive acts provide for arrest without warrant, interrogation without legal counsel, denial of the rights to remain silent, non-jury courts and the suppression of the rules of evidence.  This perversion of justice has set in motion a seamless conveyor belt of injustice that ensures the confinement of Republican activists who oppose the continuing British occupation of Ireland.

Inside prisons in both states, republican activists continue to resist criminalization policies while demanding their rights for political status.  Their demands include:  1) segregation from pro-British death squad members 2) recognition as a political group 3) the right to appoint a spokesperson 4) a separate wing/landing to represent the group.

Shamelessly, their dependants have been used as pawns by authorities in both states to exert maximum pressure on political prisoners to accept criminalization.  All of these malicious tactics are designed to silence the voice of Éire Nua proponents, who are viewed by the ruling elite in both states as a threat to the status quo, hence, a threat to their own privileged lifestyles.  It should be always remembered that it is the occupation of Ireland by a foreign enemy, which remains the greatest crime being perpetrated against the Irish people.

In order to meet its’ obligation, the NIFC will support the aforementioned dependents through Cabhair in Ireland. Cabhair is a charitable organization that has been in existence for many years supporting the dependents of political activists throughout the thirty-two Irish counties.  You can help them by giving to the Sustainer Program, in which 100% of your donation will be passed on to Cabhair.  All donations are appreciated.
