The Testimonial will take place this year in the Royal Dublin Hotel in O’Connell Street, Dublin on Saturday May 17, 2008.  The honorees will be presented with appreciation awards for their contribution to the cause of Irish freedom. A commemorative testimonial brochure will be produced by Cabhair to mark the event.

Tomás was born in Honesdale, PA a small borough in the Pocono Mountains located approximately 100 miles west of New York City.  His parents were born in the coal region of north-eastern Pennsylvania. He traces his family roots back to the starvation days in Ireland in the 1840s.  His paternal grand father was a coal miner and his maternal grandfather owned a small grocery store.  His parents operated a bar and grill in Honesdale.

Tomás obtained his early schooling at Honesdale Catholic School operated by the Sisters of Mercy. After graduating from High School he attended Mount St Mary’s University in Emmetsburg Maryland.  Upon graduating in 1966 he taught elementary school until 1972.  After that he went to work for the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Revenue.

Tomas has been active in Democratic Party politics and has been a committeeman in his local Borough of Lemoyne for the past 35 years.

The injustices inflicted on the nationalist community in occupied Ireland prompted Tomás to join Irish Northern Aid (NORAID) in 1982. He remained an active member until 1990 when he left “owing to the fact that the Provos, the organization NORAID supported had abandoned all precepts of Irish Republicanism”.

Tomas joined the National Irish Freedom Committee (NIFC) in 1990 because the NIFC upholds the precepts of 1916 and is the only true Irish Republican organization.

The core principal of the NIFC is a complete withdrawal of the British from the occupied six counties of northeast Ireland.  It is the only organization to supports Éire Nua, the Irish authored political program designed to achieve a just and lasting peace in Ireland.
