Prisoner Benefit at Mojo13 in Delaware
On January 12th a benefit was held for the dependants of Irish Republican prisoners at mojo13 in Wilmington, Delaware. The event, organized by Patrick Corcoran, was a great success with an impressive crowd some coming from as far as Brooklyn, NY.
Supporters of the event were treated to five diverse music acts: DJ Shadylady, who played between set warming the crowd spinning an eclectic mix of electronica. The first band to play was punk/oi group; “Stiff Middle Finger”. They were followed by the organizers group; “Paddy and the Hostages”. Previously known as East End Rakes, this was their first appearance under their new moniker. They played a well received set of traditional ballads including The Pogues song “The Boys From the County Hell”. Next set, duo "Guerilla Party" hit the stage. The last band to play was indie rock band; “Dean not Deaf”.
Information regarding the plight of the prisoners in both states in Ireland were distributed, including material about their recent protest for political status. Fliers and pamphlets about EIRE NUA, visa denial and Shell to Sea were also distributed. The National Irish Freedom Committee would like to thank organizer Patrick Corcoran, venue mojo13, the talented young artists and all those that supported this event. A great night for a great cause was had by all.
